Granulated Blast Furnace Slag or GBFS is formed when Blast Furnace Slag or BFS is successively at a fast rate quenched from the furnace rather than left for cooling. It has a density of about 60% to 70% that of natural sand. This material has a much increased resistance to sulfate attack. This eventually leads to better performance in countering acids of any type. In GBFS, no type of reaction related to alkali and silica occurs. Also the material provides a huge saving in connection to carbon dioxide emission which is an extra boon. What constitutes GBFS are its properties that consist of durability, appearance, higher ultimate strength than concrete which is made up of Portland cement and high sustainability level of the product made out of this material.

  • The composition of the slag varies as per the impurities that are present and also on the composition of the raw materials through which the product has to be extracted. So first of all, the molten Blast furnace slag or BFS is separated from molten iron. Then the slag is made to run into or transported to ground area for air-cooling purposes.

  • Here it solidifies and converts into a rock. The rock is called crystalline Blast furnace slag. Now the quenching of molded slag is done rapidly by passing it through high pressure trough and then consequently into high pressure sprays of water.

  • This procedure eventually causes the molten slag to overheat and this leads into its explosion. This explosion that occurs forms what we know as Granulated Blast Furnace Slag or GBFS. This is then stocked in piles where it is dewatered and collected with conventional front-end loaders.

Owing to our experts and rich industrial knowledge, we are keenly successful bin presenting Granulated Blast Furnace Slag. We offer these at reasonable rates.

Product Details:

  • Blast furnace slag is used in the production of cement (iron Portland and blast furnace cement).
  • Air-cooled blast furnace slag is formed by allowing the molten slag to cool relatively slowly under ambient conditions; final cooling can be accelerated with a water spray. The cooled material is hard and dense, although it can have a vesicular texture with closed pores. After crushing and screening, air-cooled slag can be used in several applications.
  • Granulated slag is formed by quenching molten slag in water to form sand-sized particles of glass. The disordered structure of this glass gives the material moderate hydraulic cementitious properties when very finely ground into granulated blast furnace slag, but if it can access free lime, the granulated blast furnace slag develops strong hydraulic cementitious properties.
  • Pelletized or expanded slag is cooled through a water jet, which leads to rapid steam generation and the development of innumerable vesicles within the slag. The vesicular texture reduces the overall density of the slag and allows for good mechanical binding with hydraulic cement paste.
  • Blast Furance Slag is a nonmetallic co-product which is produced in the process of iron manufacturing, Granulated Blast Furnace Slag is a glassy granular material formed when molten blast furnace slag is rapidly cooled by direct water.
  • Rapid cooling prohibits the formation of crystals and forms glassy, non-metallic, silicates and alumino silicates of calcium.

Advantage of Blast Furnace Slag Based Cement :
  • High ultimate strength of concrete
  • Highest degree of durability of concrete
  • Substantial improvement in the durability of concrete structures
  • High compressive strength which even surpasses OPC 53 grade strength requirement
  • Low heat of hydration which ensures minimal thermal cracks
  • Increased workability of concrete mix makes concrete cement impermeable and thereby more resistant to atmospheric pollutants
  • Optimum range of workability with enhanced mixability, mobility, compactability and finishibility by advantaging higher degree of fineness in cement particles and by uniform particle size distribution
  • Low alkali content - reduces the susceptibility to alkali aggregate reaction
  • Optimum setting time with high compressive strength
  • Protect steel bars in the concrete corrosion give self compacting concrete mix with a lower water cement ratio of chemical contact

Enviromental Performance of Granulated Blast Furnace Slag :
  • Effective utilization of by-products
  • Energy saving
  • Saving in virgin raw material
  • Reduction in green house gas
