Alkali powder is a cement manufacturing by-product, commonly known as alkali bypass dust or cement kiln dust (CKD). It is generated during clinker production, especially when cement plants use high-alkali raw materials or fuels.

How it is formed
In the cement kiln, alkalis like Na₂O (sodium oxide) and K₂O (potassium oxide) volatilize at high temperature.
These vapors condense with fine raw meal particles.
To control alkali levels in clinker, plants divert this material through the alkali bypass system, producing alkali powder.
